BDI Introduces Plume: A Collection Designed Around Sound and Performance

Plume integrates media performance with refined furniture design

CHANTILLY, VA — Spring 2026 — BDI introduces Plume Media + Storage, a collection designed to bring thoughtful engineering and refined materiality to modern media furniture.

Constructed from Natural Walnut hardwood and veneers, Plume is framed by softly curved edges that wrap the cabinet’s sides,

emphasizing the continuity of the wood grain. Bronze accents—including integrated pulls and the cabinet’s sturdy base—add

warmth and visual contrast.

The doors are the collection’s most distinctive feature. Formed with a subtle concave profile, they are built around an internal acoustic grid and wrapped in speaker grille cloth, a specialized open-weave fabric engineered to be acoustically transparent. This construction allows sound from speakers and soundbars to pass clearly through the cabinet while maintaining a refined exterior.

Inside, adjustable glass shelving, integrated cable management, and generous component space support a wide range of media systems while keeping technology organized and accessible.

With its sculptural presence and thoughtful engineering, Plume transforms media storage into a design element within the room—proving that performance and beauty can work in harmony.

Key design features include:

  • Acoustically transparent doors with concave acoustic-grid construction

  • Integrated cable management for organized connections

  • Adjustable glass shelving for flexible component storage

  • Soft-close doors with precision-adjustable hinges

  • Removable access panels for simple access to cables and connections.

The Heart of the Story

Media furniture designed around performance.

BDI introduces Plume Media Consoles, a new media and storage collection that combines refined materials with performance-driven engineering for today’s home entertainment systems.

Designed by Matthew Weatherly, Plume pairs Natural Walnut hardwood and veneers with bronze accents to create a distinctive

presence suited to modern living spaces. Its softly curved casework and subtly concave doors give the cabinet a refined architectural character while concealing the technology within.

A key innovation lies in the doors themselves. Each door features a gentle concave profile and is constructed with an acoustic grid wrapped in speaker grille cloth—a specialized open-weave fabric commonly used in loudspeakers. The result is a surface that allows sound to pass freely while protecting components and maintaining a clean, furniture-grade appearance.

Technology plays a central role in the living room, but it doesn’t have to dominate the space. Plume allows sound to move freely while the cabinet itself remains calm and architectural.
— Matthew Weatherly | Designer

Behind the doors, Plume reflects BDI’s philosophy of designing furniture from the inside out, supporting sound performance, airflow, and organized cable management while integrating seamlessly into the home.

Available in three-door and four-door configurations, Plume provides flexible storage for components, soundbars, and media equipment while maintaining a calm, architectural presence.
